How to prep your skin for winter

It is the time of the year when the trees change beautiful colours transitioning into the Fall season. In the middle of a busy, on-the-go lifestyle, we often forget to take care of our skin, especially prior to the winter season. However, for those of us who have sensitive skin, we know how troublesome winter dryness and cold weather can be.

In order to prepare your skin for winter, here our a few simple tips from our beauty experts at National Institute:

  1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Transitioning between hot and cold temperatures and winds, the skin gets easily irritated and one most important thing to consider is to hydrate your skin well, especially the face. Use a moisturizer that is rich in hydration (not oil) and use it depending on your skin type. If you have oily or acne-prone skin, choose a non-comedogenic moisturizer.

  1. Exfoliate

Many of us do not realize the importance of exfoliating our skin. Dry skin often accumulates and leads to additional clogging of the pores due to which it is important that we exfoliate to keep our skin clear and soft. Exfoliating twice a week is ideal however, those with sensitive skin can exfoliate once a week.

  1. Use a face mask

Face masks are great for nourishing, healing, and refreshing the skin. In winter, it is ideal to use oatmeal masks which is are great for dry or prematurely aging skin.

  1. Wear a sunscreen

No matter what the weather, always wear sunscreen outdoors. Most people only choose sunscreen in summer however it is equally important to apply sunscreen in the winter as well.
